Complete proposal and follow guidelines:
"Writing a Master’s Thesis is a privilege that is available to students who demonstrate excellence in their writing abilities and in their ability to do rigorous academic research. Before a student is allowed to enroll in thesis credit, Spanish 5950, and to work with a thesis director, there are several steps the student must take: The student will write a 10-15 page thesis prospectus in which the student outlines the topic of study and gives a coherent, well researched thesis statement and initial development. In addition, the student will write a bibliography of at least 12 secondary sources. It is recommended that the student develop the proposal with direction from one or more Spanish professors, but only once the student’s prospectus has been approved by the Spanish Graduate Faculty will the student be able to officially work with a Thesis Advisor. If the written prospectus is approved by the graduate faculty for defense, the student will then be given the opportunity to defend the prospectus in an oral presentation before the Spanish faculty, who will then decide whether the student may proceed with the thesis. If a student’s prospectus is turned down, the student may continue with the Non-thesis Option and will be expected to take the M.A. Comprehensive Exams.
